Terms of service

What Librarian is
Librarian is a Discord bot and a web dashboard for managing it. These terms cover both. By signing in or adding the bot to a server, you agree to them. The service is run by Librarian, an independent developer ("we", "us").
Who can use it
You need a Discord account. The dashboard only shows servers where you are the owner or have the Manage Server or Administrator permission, and you may only manage those.
You must follow Discord's own terms and community guidelines while using Librarian.
Plans
There is a Free plan, a Basic plan and a Pro plan, plus answer packs that add AI answers to any plan. What each includes and what it costs is on the pricing page. A plan or pack applies to one Discord server.
If a server moves to a lower plan, its settings are kept. Features outside the new plan go inactive and come back as they were if the plan is upgraded again.
Features, limits and prices can change. A price change applies from your next billing period, never to one you have already paid for.
Payments, cancelling and refunds
Payments are handled by Polar (polar.sh), which sells on our behalf as the merchant of record. Your payment, invoices and any sales tax go through Polar, and Polar's own terms apply to the payment. We never see or store your card details.
Basic and Pro are subscriptions that renew each month (or each year, if you chose yearly) until you cancel. The plan stays on until the end of the period you paid for, then the server moves to Free.
A paid plan belongs to the server, but only the Discord account that paid for it can manage or cancel it, in the dashboard under Plan & billing → Manage subscription. If that person is leaving the server, they should cancel first; another admin can then subscribe.
Removing the bot from a server does not cancel its subscription. Cancel it as well.
Answer packs are paid once. Their answers are used only after the plan's own answers for the week are spent, and do not expire while Librarian runs.
Payments are not refundable, including for features only paid plans have. Try the AI Assistant on the Free plan before you pay. If a paid plan isn't for you, cancel it and it won't renew.
Polar may still refund a payment within 60 days of it, at its own discretion, and the law where you live may give you rights that cannot be waived. A refunded subscription moves the server to Free straight away. A refunded pack takes back the answers it added that are still unused.
If you were charged by mistake or twice, email [email protected] with the server ID and we will sort it out.
The AI assistant
The assistant writes its replies with an AI model, using the knowledge your server gives it. It can be wrong. You are responsible for what it says in your server, and for checking it.
Do not add secrets, passwords or private personal data to the knowledge documents or knowledge channels. To write a reply, the question, the recent conversation and the matching knowledge are sent to an AI provider. The privacy page has the detail.
AI use is limited by your plan. When the week's answers are used up, the assistant goes quiet until they reset or an answer pack is added.
AI actions
On plans that include AI actions, staff can ask the AI to make changes in the server, such as creating channels and roles, setting permissions or posting messages. It shows a plan first and only acts on it once someone approves it, or by itself when auto-approve is on and the plan qualifies.
The person who approves a plan, or the server that turns auto-approve on, is responsible for the changes it makes, as if they had made them by hand. Read the plan before approving it.
Undo is offered for 30 days and puts back what it can. It is best effort: changes made afterwards by people or other bots can stop it putting everything back.
Your content and your members
You keep the rights to what you add: settings, messages, documents. You are responsible for having the right to use them, and for telling your members what the bot does in your server.
The bot stores data about your members to run its features. What it stores is listed on the privacy page.
Acceptable use
Do not use Librarian to break Discord's terms, harass people, run scams, or put a load on the service that affects other servers.
We can pause a server, or remove the bot from it, if it is used this way. A server removed for this is not refunded.
Availability and changes
We aim to keep the service running but do not promise it will always be available. We can change or stop a feature.
We can change these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. If you keep using Librarian after a change, you accept it.
Liability
Librarian is provided as it is and as available, to the extent the law allows. We do not promise it is free of errors or fits a particular purpose.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost data, members or income. Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it.
Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under consumer law that cannot be waived.
