Where it answers
| Part | What it does | Set it in |
|---|---|---|
| Chat channels | Answers every message and remembers the conversation | AI Assistant → Chat & mentions |
| When mentioned | Answers only when someone @mentions the bot, in the channels you pick | AI Assistant → Chat & mentions |
| Silent helper | Watches busy channels and speaks up only when your knowledge answers a real question | AI Assistant → Silent helper |
| /ask | Any member asks privately, anywhere: /ask question: | On whenever AI Assistant is |
| Your website | A chat bubble on your own site, with the same knowledge (Basic and Pro) | AI Assistant → Website widget |
Set it up
- Teach it first: open AI settings and add the channels it learns from, or a document. See the guide to training it.
- Open AI Assistant and switch it on.
- On Chat & mentions, pick your chat channels and the channels where it answers when mentioned. On Silent helper, pick the busy channels it watches.
- Ask it something in Discord.
Tune how it answers
- Remembers the last: how many earlier messages from that member it keeps in mind, up to 10.
- Longest reply: keeps answers short in busy channels.
- How sure it must be (silent helper): higher means it speaks up less often.
- Only clear questions (silent helper): only messages that start with a question word.
- Answer other bots: for chat bridges, such as a Minecraft relay that posts as a bot. It never answers itself.
Its personality and its rules for every answer live in AI settings → Rules & personality, shared by every AI module.
Questions it couldn't answer
Every question it didn't know is listed under AI settings → Unanswered questions, grouped and counted, so you know what to add to your docs next. It can also tell staff in a channel once a question has been asked a few times. That part is free and uses no answers.
Switching AI Assistant off pauses every part, /ask and the website included. All the settings stay.
Questions
Is the Discord AI chatbot free?
Yes. AI Assistant is on the Free plan, with free AI answers every week. Basic and Pro include more, and answer packs top up any plan.
Will it spam my channels?
No. In chat channels it answers what's said to it. The silent helper only speaks when your knowledge clearly answers a question, and you set how sure it must be.
Which AI model does it use?
Librarian runs the AI for you, so there's no API key to set up and nothing extra to pay outside your plan.
